"Steve Jobs: Unveiling the Mystical Influence - How 'Autobiography of a Yogi' Transformed Apple's Visionary Founder"
Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Inc., was deeply influenced by the book "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda. Paramahansa Yogananda was an Indian Hindu monk, yogi and guru who introduced millions to the teachings of meditation and Kriya Yoga. He read this book more than 40 times in his life time. Plus, he gave five hundred copies away to guests at the conclusion of his funeral service. In fact the only book that Steve Jobs had downloaded on his iPad was Autobiography of a Yogi.
Recently I finished reading the book. Here are a few key lessons that Steve Jobs derived from the book:
Spirituality and Intuition: The book sparked Jobs' interest in spirituality and the power of intuition. It opened his mind to the idea that there is a deeper connection between different aspects of life. Jobs believed in following his intuition and integrating spiritual practices into his personal and professional life. He often emphasized the importance of trusting one's instincts and inner voice.
Simplicity and Minimalism: The concept of simplicity and minimalism resonated with Jobs. He believed in creating products that were elegant, user-friendly, and stripped down to their core essence. This approach is evident in Apple's product designs, where simplicity and minimalism are key principles.
Importance of Vision: Yogananda's journey and spiritual experiences inspired Jobs to think beyond the material world and to envision something greater. Jobs often spoke about the power of having a vision and using it as a guiding force in business. He emphasized the importance of not only creating great products but also having a clear and compelling vision that inspires both employees and customers.
The Interconnectedness of All Things: Yogananda's teachings about the interconnectedness of all things resonated with Jobs. It influenced his belief that technology and the humanities should not be seen as separate realms, but rather as intertwined aspects of human experience. This perspective influenced Apple's focus on combining technology with art, design, and user experience.
Pursuit of Excellence: Yogananda's spiritual journey and dedication to his practice inspired Jobs' pursuit of excellence. Jobs believed in relentlessly pursuing perfection and striving for excellence in every aspect of his work. He sought to create products that were not only functional but also beautifully designed and crafted.
If you read all five lesson again you’ll observe that all culturally company and all products are have a similar influence as mentioned above. It's important to note that while Jobs found inspiration in "Autobiography of a Yogi," his interpretation and application of its teachings were unique to him. He combined these insights with his own experiences and beliefs, shaping his leadership style and the success of Apple.
